Trump Plans Rally in Michigan to Commemorate 100 Days in Office President Donald Trump is set to host a rally in Macomb County, Michigan, as he marks the completion of his first 100 days in his current term. This event is pivotal for underscoring the achievements of his administration since his return to the White House. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the rally, emphasizing Michigan's significance in Trump's political strategy. In a statement on social media, Leavitt mentioned, “President Trump is excited to return to the great state of Michigan next Tuesday, where he will rally in Macomb County to celebrate the FIRST 100 DAYS!” This rally represents one of Trump's few public engagements since he resumed office. His travel schedule has largely consisted of personal trips, with the only official outing prior to the Michigan event being a visit to regions affected by disasters in North Carolina and California, alongside an event in Las Vegas promoting his tax plan. Michigan holds considerable importance as a battleground state that Trump won in the recent elections. The rally also serves as a platform for broader political discussions. Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, has been in dialogue with Trump, seeking opportunities for bipartisan efforts, particularly regarding the status of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base. The future of this base is a pressing concern for state lawmakers, especially with the planned retirement of the A-10 aircraft. In a recent executive order signing, Trump touched upon the subject of Selfridge, reiterating his commitment to ensuring its operational viability: “I think we’re going to be successful, Governor. I think we’ll be very successful there.” Meanwhile, Governor Whitmer's spokesperson has not confirmed whether she will attend the rally, stating, “We don’t have anything to share at this time.” Governor Whitmer has advocated for a new fighter mission at Selfridge to replace the A-10s and has previously voiced her concerns directly to Air Force officials during the Biden administration. She wrote in a letter, “A fighter mission at Selfridge to recapitalize the A10s is the right path forward for the State of Michigan, the Air Force, and the nation.” Before making his way to Michigan for the rally, Trump will attend the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome, marking his inaugural international trip of his second term.
