Elon Musk is once again in the spotlight after old photographs linking him to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell began circulating online, just weeks after he publicly attacked Donald Trump over alleged connections to Epstein.

One image, snapped at a Vanity Fair party in 2014, shows Musk alongside Maxwell. At the time, Maxwell had not yet been arrested; six years later she was taken into custody, and in 2021 she was convicted of helping Epstein traffic underage girls and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Musk has long brushed off the encounter, insisting Maxwell merely “photobombed” him. Still, a later account from someone who worked the event claimed the two engaged in conversation about erasing digital footprints, extraterrestrial life, and whether reality itself is a simulation.

Another, far more damaging photo has also surfaced, Musk smiling directly with Epstein. This picture, reportedly recovered from inside Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, is fueling renewed speculation about Musk’s past associations, especially given his insistence on publicly distancing himself from Maxwell.

The “Epstein Files” Fight With Trump

The resurfaced images land at a volatile moment for Musk, who has been needling Trump over the still-sealed “Epstein Files.” Musk has accused the former president of avoiding their release, posting, and later deleting, a message that read: “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!

When Trump dismissed the documents as a “hoax,” Musk fired back: “Wow, amazing that Epstein ‘killed himself’ and Ghislaine is in federal prison for a hoax. He should just release the files and point out which part is the hoax.”

Push Back

The attacks have rattled some of Musk’s usual allies in the Republican Party. Rep. Greg Murphy (R–N.C.) blasted Musk’s comments as “absolutely childish and ridiculous,” warning that the billionaire has “lost some of his gravitas.”

Others have openly questioned his judgment, and even his state of mind. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R–Pa.) said Musk is “starting to look a little crazy,” while Rep. Kevin Hern (R–Okla.) argued the feud is only strengthening Trump’s base: “Every tweet that goes out, people are more lockstep behind President Trump, and [Musk is] losing favor.”
