Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan Actively Searches for Gubernatorial Running Mate

As Detroit's Mayor Mike Duggan progresses in his campaign for governor as an independent candidate, he is evaluating a range of potential running mates. While he is deliberating on his options, Duggan has indicated that there is no rush to make a selection.

In a recent discussion on the Michigan Public Television program “Off The Record,” Duggan shared, “I’m going to pick the most talented person, and at this point, I don’t have a particular candidate in mind, but I’m meeting people every day in different parts of the state.”

Duggan has completed the filing of required nominating petitions, securing his position on the ballot as an independent, a notable change from his previous affiliation with the Democratic Party.

He has seen considerable interest from various individuals eager to join his independent platform. However, he must finalize his selection and submit the name of his running mate by September.

Highlighting his criteria for a suitable partner, Duggan emphasized the importance of integrity and capability, stating, “Somebody who is honest, who is competent, who says what they mean, commands respect, has an accomplishment in life that people can say, yeah, we are going to end politics as usual.”
