Excellent Job Reports in 2022 and Throughout 2023, Republicans Stay Silent
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its job report detailing job growth for 2022 and highlighting positive economic trends across the nation.
In 2022, the USA saw the creation of 4.8 million jobs, and through May 2023, 1.57 million jobs have been created this year! The unemployment rate has dropped from 6.3% to 3.4% in just two years, the lowest it has been since 1969 (before we had even landed on the moon!). The unemployment rate was 3.4% in April 2023, though increased slightly to 3.7% in May. However, 339,000 jobs were created in May, showing labor market resiliency.
Despite all the good news throughout 2023, the RNC is still determined to ignore positive economic developments to try and undermine the success of the Biden administration. When unemployment dropped to 3.4% and 250,000 jobs were created in April, Republican leaders completely ignored the economic news. When the BLS released its 2022 jobs report, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel claimed that the report shows “pain and misery for American families.” On the contrary, the report shows that the economy is getting better for the ordinary American. In January, a majority of Americans reported feeling financially secure.
Other leading republicans have chosen to entirely ignore the positive report. Senator Mitch McConnell and Speaker Kevin McCarthy have stayed silent since the release of the report, refusing to acknowledge positive economic trends that counter their political narrative of unrelenting inflation and despair.
The latest report puts a kink in their messaging strategy. There is truly no way for the RNC to spin the good news of the job report— things are looking up for everyday Americans!
